The Tashkent 2026 World Taekwondo Junior Championships officially began in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, with the first finals taking place at the Martial Arts Sports Complex in Olympic City. Three weight categories concluded on the opening day, establishing an early competitive benchmark at Junior level.
Across the first day, Chieh Ling Wang, Simok Eom, and Kunyue Ren secured gold medals without conceding a round, reflecting both technical control and tactical maturity.
In the W -46kg division, Chieh Ling Wang of Chinese Taipei captured her second consecutive Junior world title, following her success in Chuncheon 2024. Facing Elizaveta Bystrova, Wang managed a high-scoring opening round before extending the margin early in the second to secure a points difference victory. Bronze medals went to Deya Peeva and Olha Malenko.
The M +78kg final saw Simok Eom deliver a controlled performance against Uzbekistan’s Alisher Pak. Eom established a clear advantage in the opening round and maintained composure in a tighter second round to close the match. Bronze medals were awarded to Petros Giannouchidis and Mohmmad Dar Ali.
In the W -59kg category, Kunyue Ren of China demonstrated precise timing and match control. After a scoreless opening phase, Ren broke the deadlock late in the round before taking full command in the second. Türkiye’s Cansu Şeyhoğlu secured silver, while Pinar Lotfizadeh and Salma Mohammed Essam El Din Mohamed completed the podium.
The Junior World Championships remain a key milestone in the World Taekwondo development pathway. Performances at this level often indicate readiness for transition into Senior competition, particularly when athletes demonstrate structured round management and tactical discipline under pressure.
