World champion Henrique Marques gives Brazil a second Paris title in M-80kg, while Ma Jingyue follows her Asian Games gold with victory in W-49kg.
Brazil had to wait until the last final in Paris to join Iran on two golds. World champion Henrique Marques Rodrigues FERNANDES delivered the second, beating Uzbekistan’s Jasurbek JAYSUNOV 2–0 in M-80kg to close the Paris 2026 World Taekwondo Grand Prix Series on Sunday.
China’s Jingyue MA had already taken the W-49kg title with a 2–1 win over South Korea’s Hyang-Gi KIM. For the Asian Games champion, gold in France came just nine days after gold in Aichi-Nagoya. The two finals on 11 October brought the eight Kyorugi divisions to a close at the Palais des Sports Marcel Cerdan in Levallois-Perret.
A gold to go with silver and bronze
Silver in Rome, bronze in Muju and now gold in Paris: Marques finished on the podium at all three 2026 Grand Prix Series events. His win came a day after Maria Clara PACHECO took W-57kg, giving Brazil a second title on the closing weekend.
Henrique Marques (blue) faces Jasurbek Jaysunov in the M-80kg final in Paris on 11 October 2026.
The reigning M-80kg world champion opened against Croatia’s Oscar KOVACIC in the round of 16. From the quarter-finals onwards, he won each contest 2–0, beating Iran’s Amir Sina BAKHTIARI, the United States’ Victor RODRIGUES and finally Jaysunov.
Jaysunov was pursuing a second title of his own after Asian Games gold on 2 October. He beat Iran’s Olympic silver medallist Mehran BARKHORDARI 2–0 in the round of 16, came through a three-round quarter-final against Georgia’s Zurab KINTSURASHVILI, then defeated Morocco’s Haitam ZARHOUTI 2–0 in the semi-final. Marques ended that run in the final; Rodrigues and Zarhouti took bronze.
Nine days, two titles for Ma
Ma’s route to the W-49kg title was less straightforward. Three of her five contests went to a deciding round, including the final against Kim.
Ma Jingyue (blue) faces Kim Hyang-gi in the W-49kg final in Paris on 11 October 2026.
After opening with a 2–0 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Dzejla MAKAS, she beat France’s Mah Teninba FOFANA and Spain’s Adriana Cerezo IGLESIAS 2–1. A 2–0 semi-final win over Chinese Taipei’s Chieh-Ling WANG set up the meeting with Kim, where Ma won again in three rounds.
Kim had needed three rounds against compatriot Yumin LEE in the round of 16 and Hungary’s Kamilah SALIM in the semi-final. Salim and Wang left with bronze, while Kim added silver to a South Korean campaign that had produced M-68kg gold for Jinho MUN on Saturday.
Brazil and Iran take two golds apiece
Pacheco and Marques accounted for Brazil’s two titles. Iran had taken its pair on the opening day through Abolfazl ZANDI in M-58kg and Arian SALIMI in M+80kg. Great Britain, Hungary, South Korea and China each won one of the other four golds.
