The global taekwondo family enters a period of solemn reflection following the passing of Grandmaster Dai-won Moon. Universally revered as the patriarch who established the absolute foundations of the discipline in Mexico, Grandmaster Moon leaves behind an enduring legacy that permanently reshaped the cultural and athletic landscape of the Pan-American region and the wider World Taekwondo community.

His journey began more than five decades ago, transitioning the traditional tenets of the martial art into a rapidly expanding sportive framework. Grandmaster Moon’s influence extended far past national development. He possessed a rare, early understanding of where the sport needed to position itself globally. Long before taekwondo secured its permanent status on the Olympic program, Moon was advocating for modernized competitive structures, organizational clarity, and technical refinement across both Kyorugi and Poomsae disciplines.

World Taekwondo President Choue Chung-won led the global federation's tributes, honoring a lifetime dedicated to the promotion of WT values. Moon’s administrative wisdom and technical guidance served as crucial benchmarks during the decades when taekwondo transitioned from a localized art into a highly regulated global sport.

The systems Grandmaster Moon established continue to serve as a blueprint for continental development programs. His work ensured that the Pan-American region remained highly competitive within the global structure, creating sustainable pathways for Cadet, Junior, and Senior athletes to transition into elite international competition. The structural and philosophical foundations laid by Grandmaster Dai-won Moon will remain a permanent cornerstone of international taekwondo history.
